D&D Companion: Treasure

"Part 7: Treasure" in a Companion supplement should include expanded tables for each of the categories described in B/X, like those presented in the D&D Companion Set rules.

Specific types  of gems and jewelry were described in the Companion Set, in addition to rules for damaged gems and jewelry, as well as special treasures.

Expanded tables for magic items were also included, covering swords, armor, miscellaneous weapons, potions, scrolls, rings, wands/staves/rods, and miscellaneous magic.*

*I would probably expand the miscellaneous magic table, in order to include a greater variety of items originally described in OD&D or AD&D

  1. One question that applies to both monsters and treasure: Are these intended to match the increased levels of the characters (levels 15+, beyond Expert levels) or just diversify the monsters and treasure for Expert level play? In terms of monsters it is usually a matter of making them bigger, tougher and perhaps more or deadlier special abilities. In terms of treasure it becomes a delicate balance between being a worthy reward for mighty heroes and not being a game-breaking Monty Haul item.

    1. Mostly intended for higher level play (15-36), although I did include some lower level underwater monsters (as well as higher level ones!) for underwater campaigns, partly because they were included in the OD&D supplements, and I wanted to round out the roster.

Expanded lists of magic items would include some more powerful ones, but I'm also planning on covering artifacts, tomorrow...
